Last day of holiday, we fly to Melbourne tomorrow. Again a relaxing day around the pool although we did walk to Suntec Mall and had a wish at the fountain of Wealth!! You never know it may pay for the next holiday!
Also walked to the Durian Fruit better known as the Esplanade theatres (they look like Durian Fruit). So, last photos of Singapore…
Another pool day. But first a night photo from our hotel room…
Walked from our hotel through a maze of air-conditioned subways to the Esplanade theatre (the dome like buildings in the phot above) and on to the Merlion. The following photo shows 3 of Singapore’s too tourist attractions in one shot (The Merlion, Marina Bay Sands and the Singapore Flyer / Ferris wheel).
Had a very lazy day today, really hit hard by Jet Lag. Seems to affect us more as we get older. Spent most of the day around the pool and shopping in the local Mall.
Late in the day we took a Taxi to the Gardens By The Bay and walked around this unreal place before more shopping in Marina Bay Sands and walking back to our Hotel (the Fairmont). If you have the money, this is the place to shop Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Rolex, Phillippe Patek and many many more…..
I love this building… the walls really do curve and the infinity swimming pool across all three towers on the 57th floor is an engineering masterpiece.
Finally, we had a meal in the nearest Hawker centre before a drink by the pool.
Spent a quiet couple of days around Congleton, Biddulph and Rudyard Lake. No photos I’m afraid, but we have seen a nice museum and some old buildings in Congleton as well as having some very nice food (including sausage roll with pork and gooseberry!!).
We are now in the Delta hotel near Manchester airport where we are staying tonight before we fly to Singapore tomorrow morning.
Wet and rainy drive today from Appleby to Leek (how appropriate). Biddulph, actually, but Leek is nearby. We’re staying at Rudyard Hotel right on the lake.
Well it’s not called the Lake district for nothing! The first wet day we’ve had since visiting Chatsworth on Day 3.
So, we chose to visit a waterfall, “Aira Force” on the banks of Ullswater.
From Aira Force we drove to Kendal for a light lunch before returning to Appleby. We’re off to Rudyard Lake near Leek tomorrow with only a few days left before flying to Singapore.
After some morning showers we found ourselves shopping in Keswick, before moving on to Borrowdale for lunch. We’d read that the river in Borrowdale had run almost dry after the recent drought, but the overnight rain had restored it’s flow.
The scenery in Borrowdale is magnificent.
Especially this little guy, spotted when we had lunch at the Borrowdale Gates Hotel
Travelled from Rothbury to Appleby-in-Westmoreland today stopping at Hadrian’s Wall and the Housesteads Fort and museum. These Roman remains include the finest preserved latrines from Roman Britain!!
Then on to Lambley in search of a “lost” viaduct. We were told it was 5 minutes walk and we’ll worth the trek 25 minutes later and still no sign of it!! Must be Northumbrian minutes!!
So, on to Lunch in Alston before continuing our journey to Appleby.
